Why do you seem to have such an interest in my learning about flash
photography? Sounds like you're taking my position personally.

Just because a subject has been presented here frequently, and information
is readily available from other sources, is not reason enough for me to
spend time learning about something I care nothing about. I don't follow
the beer discussions either.

I don't know anything about flash ... OK, that's not true. I know that
flash emits light and can alter the light in a scene. I know what the term
bounce flash means. There may be one or two other small, unimportant items
that I know ~something~ about, but if there are, I don't know what they are
off hand. Oh, I've heard the term second curtain synch used, but I don't
know much more about it than that. In fact, until I heard that term I had
no idea that there was even a second curtain in an SLR.

I know a lot of technical stuff. I'm good at a few things in photography.
But my skills are very limited - they fall within a limited range. There
are any number of photogs on this list who know more about more stuff than
I do. For example, I hadn't shot color much before this year except for a
few vacation and holiday snaps. Now I want to learn more about color
films. So, when there's something in particular that interests me, i ask
the list. There are a few people here who are very good in both
understanding some aspects of color and sharing what they know. Mark
Cassino once provided wonderful information to help me understand macro
magnification and DoF, a subject that I knew nothing of any substance
about. Recently Cotty put up some pics he made of his sun kicking a ball
about. He used flash. I liked the result. When and if I'm ready to learn
about that you can bet I'll be asking Cotty a lot of questions. For now
just looking at the pics without knowing all the technical stuff is both
enjoyable and interesting, and the photos instill in me a sense of joy and
amazement. FWIW, learning about how he did those great pics at this point
would detract from that joy, and the pics would lose their "magic" for me.

When I'm ready to learn about flash, I'll learn about it.

Yes, I'm intelligent, but I'm also ignorant about a number of things. I
don't mind being ignorant about the things that don't interest me, or that
I know I will get to in time. It allows me time to be better informed
about the things that do interest me - which, incidentally, go way beyond
photography.
