I liked the color versions better. The artificial grain in the B&W image doesn't look convincing to me.
If I were to do a B&W conversion, I would set my black point higher, so that there would actually be some noticeable black areas. This would help cut down on the hazy look a bit, and add some clarity. I would then burn in the crowd, to make them noticeably darker than the band. That should put more attention back on the guitarist, and it makes it harder to tell if the crowd is a small one. ;-)
It does have a nice rock n' roll feel. take care, Glen
