Thanks Godfrey - I see one f/2.8 zoom there. Canon have three, covering the whole range from 16mm to 200mm. They also have a 35mm f/1.4 prime...

Have you looked at the Canon 35/1.4L, 24-70/2.8L, 16-35/2.8L, and 70-200/2.8L lately? Very fine lenses, but all are monstrously big and heavy, never mind very expensive. I owned the 24-70/2.8L for a bit and sold it ... I simply refuse to carry such big, clumsy and heavy lenses around unless someone is paying me to do so.

Other's preferences may differ, but such lenses don't suit my needs particularly well most of the time. Case in point: I would have loved to have that EF 70-200/2.8L IS for a few sessions of photographing the racers on the Isle of Man in Summer 2004, but is it worth lugging around a foot long, 4lb+ lens all the time for the 40 minutes per year worth of when I can actually exploit its advantage over the others, and at a price of $1800 for the pleasure?

Godfrey
