I've been using simple wrist straps that screw into the tripod socket of
the camera for years. I must have six or eight of them in different lengths
and made of different material for different cameras. They are inexpensive,
light weight, flexible.

Some of us like the thin, leather straps from the Spotmatic days, which can
remain attached to the camera but can also be wrapped around the wrist
easily and comfortably to make a nice grip. The fat and odd shaped straps
that are common today don't work particularly well for that purpose.
