Just another example of how a perfectly innocent phrase changes
meaning with changing generations.  I remember reading an Agatha
Christie mystery (set, of course, at an English country house)
where a weekend guest decided that the best way to alleviate a
fit of tedium was to make love to his hostess for a couple of hours.

Not that it's a bad idea, but I doubt that's what Dame Agatha meant.
