Hello Bob, Thanks for your comments. On my calibrated monitor, the detail is there. I'm curious as to what you are possibly missing.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxistds/ If you scroll down near the bottom of this page, you will see a bar from white to black showing the gradations. You should be able to see each gradation. The histogram of this image shows that there are no blocked up shadows, so the detail should be there for you to see. I actually like the light and dark areas on this leaf rather than a more evenly illuminated image. It give it a more natural look and helps emphasize the structure of the leaf.
