Thanks for your comments, William.

I wasn't going to take this picture. The guy was in a funny pose, but
it was just that, and I don't like sneaking pictures of drunks or
homeless people. When the train came, I realized that the guy wasn't
moving, and there was going to be a big contrast between his stillness
and the moving train. I set the shutter to 1/15, metered on the
ground, composed and fired. I think I did notice the cigarrette in the
floor when framing the shot.


Despair, hopelessness. They maybe make the picture interesting, but
they came afterwards, during editing. I cannot claim I plan for these
things to happen.
