I didn't think it was backlit when I scanned it yesterday, but looking closer I see the spider isn't casting a shadow so it must be.
To answer Jack's question, I believe it was a lily that the spider was sitting on.
IIRC I actually took this photo in portrait orientation but I thought it looked "wrong" with the spider facing downwards.
I'm glad you all enjoyed the pic... I'll see if I can post another one tonight, as another photo on that roll also caught my eye.
