Sure, but you've gotta consider other factors as well. Duty, taxes, timing, etc. In Michael's case buying in the US may be a better idea than buying in Canada, but for a Canadian, buying locally might work out to be better ... gotta look at the total picture ;-)) I didn't mean to imply that you're getting ripped off.
However, it seems that for those wanting or seriously considering a D or a DS, it's time to start thinking seriously about making the purchase. Stock is appearing to be spotty, especially in the stores with good reputations, and prices in many places seem to be pretty low (hard to imagine them getting much lower in some instances), close to bottoming out. I can't imagine the DS getting much lower than it already is.
