Is the CCD face cover glass or plastic?
If glass, why do we have to be so afraid of scratching it?
If plastic, this could explain why not SMC.
In any case, since it is manufactured by Sony, I don't expect it to be SMC
even if glass.

How do you know there isn't? I know that the thin glass cover on the face
of CCD and CMOS chips is multi-coated. It may not use the same coatings
used on Pentax lenses.
