Don't know the precise details. It was certainly on a monopod; I got the impression that it was the impact of the ball that killed the rig - it may have been knocked out of his hands and the real damage came with impact with the floor. I think that the ball impact would be greater. The camera was resurrected, the lens and head were toast.
I always use a neckstrap with a monopod....... m
