Sorry Herb, I have to disagree. Why would Canon run the 1DsmkII and the 1DmkII in tandem? The answer is that they both fulfil different needs, based on current technology. If a sports shooter had unlimited funds and had to choose between the two Canon models above, which one do you think he would choose? And so you're saying he's settling for second best?
