Well that is the kind of upgrade Pentax should have done in their
firmware IMO...
I'm not sure if it is at all possible with pure software... USB
interface is essentially an asymmetric thing, i.e. a device is either a
master or a slave. When one plugs a *istD to a PC, the PC is master, the
*istD is slave (the PC controls the *istD).
I didn't read the PictBridge specs, but it might be such that for a
camera to support PictBridge, it must be able to become a master when
plugged to a printer (thus the specific custom function switch on the
*istDL and *istDS), which involves specific (hardware) USB interface
capabilities.
Only the PictBridge specs hold the truth... and I'm not in the mood
reading them tonight ;-)
