Oh now, statues have been carved from stones with all sorts of colors and textures. This one happened to be this color. ;)

As for the size of the lines, keep in mind that I never mentioned how large the statue would be, so how can you say the lines are disproportionately large? Maybe it's a small statue? ;)

Also, keep in mind that I was going for an old weathered look. That might explain the roughness a bit. Perhaps the statue has also been heavily rained on recently, explaining why an old weathered statue would have such vivid color. Naturally, the image of the statue would have been taken with cross-polarized lighting to totally remove the glare from the rain-soaked stone, which explains why we have the color saturation of wet stone without the highlights and glare people typically associate with wet stone. ;)

Still, thanks for the comments. I might look for some larger pieces of stone with less dramatic coloring next time. That should make it look more like "typical" stone sculpture, but then my "sculpture" might start looking like everyone else's. I can see a potential problem with going too far in that direction also.
