I think both versions are a bit over the top - statues are not this color at

Try, try again IMHO.
Oh now, statues have been carved from stones with all sorts of colors and
textures. This one happened to be this color. ;)
As for the size of the lines, keep in mind that I never mentioned how large
the statue would be, so how can you say the lines are disproportionately
large? Maybe it's a small statue? ;)
Also, keep in mind that I was going for an old weathered look. That might
explain the roughness a bit. Perhaps the statue has also been heavily
rained on recently, explaining why an old weathered statue would have such
vivid color. Naturally, the image of the statue would have been taken with
cross-polarized lighting to totally remove the glare from the rain-soaked
stone, which explains why we have the color saturation of wet stone without
the highlights and glare people typically associate with wet stone. ;)
Still, thanks for the comments. I might look for some larger pieces of
stone with less dramatic coloring next time. That should make it look more
like "typical" stone sculpture, but then my "sculpture" might start looking
like everyone else's. I can see a potential problem with going too far in
that direction also.
thanks,
