Hmm. That's a bit of a kludge. I was thinking along the lines of rigging a
slip on rig that would fit over the lens hood but I'd hate to depend on
friction to hold a $100 filter in place. That wouldn't cure the vignetting
either.

I'm pretty sure I'd get vignetting but I may have to try it. Digital? What's
that?

Thanks for the reply. It confirmed that I'm not missing something and that
the hood is indeed permanently attached to the lens.
