I'm certain it was luck, and I didn't buy the lens with the specific prospect of a fast return on investment, but I did one job for a client that paid for the lens and body four weeks after I'd received the kit.
I agree, however, that the majority of real estate photographs today are more economically done with a 3-4 Mpixel fixed lens digicam. The Konica Minolta A200 plus ACW-100 wide converter (which nets a similar field of view to the DA14 on the DS) does a very good job as well, although the correction leaves a bit to be desired. That camera and supplementary lens together is less than the cost of the DA14 lens alone.
