Re: linear polarizer for 35-105/3.5?

thinking of getting a polarizer for my "new" A35-105/3.5 lens which should be 
arriving this week.

i've always thought that circular polarizers were for autofocus lens and that 
linear were for manual focus.

does that apply to the A35-105/3.5?
