My old Epson Stylus Photo 935 had some sort of suction pump. It was a
foam filled rubber cup that created a seal against the print head.

I reported here the banding  problems I was having with the 935 at the
time. I spent a whole afternoon pumping warm soapy water,  Windex &
isopropyl alcohol through the heads. Did no good. I had been thinking
about upgrading. That problem just accelerated my decision process.
