I like how you think Shel. This is indeed the way I usually work when
I move to manual exposure control and precisely because I find it
fast, accurate, and intuitive. Why use a meter when you can review
the exposure with a histogram a second later and make suitable
adjustments to your initial guesstimate?
Some might argue that this doesn't work in rapidly changing lighting
conditions or for transitory photo opportunities, but then that's
what Program, Tv, and Av exposure modes are for. And despite that, it
can work remarkably well if you're facile with your exposure estimation.
I'm sure this idea will not fly very far on this list.
