Only once did I fail to save my RAW images. That was the first time I ever used my *istD, and I converted everything to tiff and discarded the RAWs. Didn't kow any better. As it happens, that was an important shoot, and one of my best images was recorded that day. Knowing what I know now about the conversion process, I'm certain that I could improve that shot -- if I only had the RAW. I haven't discarded a single decent RAW frame since then, and I'll never discard another RAW for as long as I'm shooting.

OK guys and girls this may be sacrilege but I do nor routinely archive my RAW files. For normal, not exceptionally good photos, I do a good job of
converting and adjusting and then save/archive as a high quality Jpeg.

I learned you can do a lot with a good Jpeg from several years using
cameras that didn't give a choice. So it is till possible to change the
Jpeg'd photo if necessary. Yes quality is lost. I can not tell the
difference without going to 200% in PhotoShop.

I may some day regret this policy, but it hasn't happened yet.
