Have you tried the Harrington quad-tone RIP for Epson printers? It's got
an excellent reputation for great B&W (and is only $50.00). I just
downloaded it but haven't had a chance to try it yet (and probably won't
have a chance for a while.)

Yes, I've been using it for a while ... my B&W print system has been the old 1270/MIS inks/QuadToneRIP for at least the past two years. It's another reason to be inclined in the Epson R2400's favor.
