The problem was definitely my computer. Last night (well, early this morning) the problem was still occurring so I ran Norton's System Doctor, pinged my ISP and this indicated that there was nothing wrong with the internet connection.
I then checked the "Optimization Map" & it turned out all my hardisks were pretty fragmented. I ran the optimization thingy & went to bed. When I got up this morning & checked, all was working as it should be. I can now view & check my web pages. Excellent. I don't understand how doing this fixed the problem, but that is the only thing that I have done to my machine in the last 12 hours. Once again thanks for everyone's help.
