It doesn't do much for me.  Not because of the composition, which is
quite nice, but for reasons I can't articulate, I don't like the
texture of the dirt or sand.  I just find it bothersome for some
reason.

I think that this is one where seeing it small on a monitor just
doesn't do it justice.  Were it blown up nice and big and nicely
mounted on a wall, where I could stand in front of it for a prolonged
time and gaze at what I'm guessing would be wonderful detail, I think
I'd feel differently about it.
