I don't think there would be any loss in quality as long as you're
shooting raw, it isn't any slower, as far as
I can tell. I have a D, and the Ds may handle AWB better, but the
further away from Daylight balance the
worse it is at getting the balance correct. I like to set the white
balance to as close to the actual light as
possible to give a reference to what the scene really looked like.
