Thanx, Tom, Charles, William,

I tried spinning and cropping this, but I just could not get something
that I felt right with. .

When I shot it, I was hoping that the diagonal of the leaf would draw
my eye down to the ball. But it doesn't do that for me. Perhaps you're
right, if I had more dof, to bring the background leaf framing the
diagonal would have helped. Or, shot the picture more from the upper
left and followed the diagonal down to the ball?

Thanks for looking and commenting...

Further comment....

The longer I look at this picture, the more annoyed I get with it. It has lots of good stuff about it, and I want to like it. I do think it is nicely done, but there are a number of things about it that get in the way. The light is very nice indeed, though you could stand to burn down the upper left quite a bit. The bright upper left corner is accentuated by the out of focus hot spots. Sadly, the upper left corner is not where the picture lives. The background is a mish mosh ouf out of focus busy, that is just plain annoying.
My recent picture of the crooked stump suffers this affliction as well.
If there was a lot less DOF, this composition might work.
If there were more, I don't think it would work at all.
All this is moot, we are dealing with this image, and this image's DOF and angle of view.

"If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough."

So, we come to Jack's crop.
Definitely an improvement, but for me, it doesn't go far enough.
Have a look at:

Please ignore the lack of talent that went into swiping out the hot spot, top left.

For me, this is on it's way to being a strong photograph.
