Hi Frank ...

Hate to be a nit picl\ker, but that's my mood today after spending a few
hours shooting with the ZX-5n.

The M5 was the first Leica RF with a built in meter. It was introduced in
1971 while the CL was introduced a couple of years later. The metering
systems of the two cameras are similar if I understand them correctly.

It might also be noted that Leica partnered with Minolta to make (at least
some of) the R-series SLR bodies, Minolta even made some lenses that bear
the Leica label.

WHo is it made th CL?
It's still a pretty expensive camera, all things considered.
Is most of the expense a result of it's orange-red dot?

In fact, the CL was the first ever Leica rangefinder to have ttl light
metering. It has a rather ingenious cell on a little swingarm which
sits in front of the focal plane shutter. It swings out of the way
just prior to the moment of exposure.

I acknowledge that
they're not as solid feeling as a "real" German-made Leica (either
M-series or older screwmount), and they may not last as long as those
legendary cameras.
