Lets see here, Shel believes its better to use this lense's VALUABLE feature like open aperture metering

will also contend I don't want to lose that SAME exact
feature on a DSLR with my K/M lenses either. There
is an even important reason to use a M42 Pentax body
he didn't mention, with a M42 body you get auto aperture
with the 85/1.8 SMCT and you don't with any K body
with adapter on it.

Subject: RE: SMC Takumar 85mm 1.8 question

I'm not P.J. (Thank goodness <GD&R>)

The 35/3.5 is an exceptional lens. I've had that one in several iterations,
all are wonderful optics.
Using a Spotmatic F you'd get the open aperture metering. Using a K-mount
with an adapter I'm afraid you'd lose that feature, yet the Spot F is
essentially the identical camera to the K1000 and KM except for the mount. So, IMO, you'd be losing a valuable feature for no gain in functionality. Find a good Spotmatic F. Find a source for batteries for it as well -
shouldn't be hard.

Hi P.J.
any opinions on other "worthy" M42 screw mount Pentax lenses like: I could maybe get an SMC Takumar 35mm F3.5 or a SMC Takumar 200 F4 or a 100mm Macro F4 from the same seller, all in good condition for nearly the same price or a bit lower each.

I don't know how rare the M42-->Kmount adapters are, I have two of them at the moment. But maybe a nice Spotmatic would feel even better...
