Set the camera to release the shutter without CF card. Anything should function. Except it can't store a picture. Yor camera is faulty, no doubt in my mind!

Recently I had my D, along with some nice lenses, stolen and have just replaced the D with one from ebay. This seems to be functioning only in some sort of program mode, metering, focus and capture seem to function but shutter and aperture wheels have no effect. Likewise the function select knob (iso, w/b, capture quality, tv, av etc.) does not function at all. Plainly the camera is essentially useless at present but I wonder if it could be operating strangely because there is no card inside - currently I don't have one to test it with.
