Dave,

$200US for an A*300/4, after $330US for an A*85/1.4...We all hate you! <g>
Two years ago I paid $500 for the A*300/4. It would go for more now on ebay.
And did you see the bumped and bruised A*85/1.4 that went yesterday on ebay
for $500. You got some great deals!

Regards, Bob S.

<< Well, what a grand week's shopping I've had.

  Last Saturday I picked up the SMC-A* 85/1.4 for NZ$800 (about US$330). I
posted about that earlier so I won't dwell on it.

This evening I just added another bargain. I am now the proud owner of an
SMC-A* 300/4, in near-perfect condition complete with its original cap and
case, for which I paid the grand sum of NZ$500 (about US$200). The only
mark on it is a small scratch on the barrel near the serial number.

I also picked up a decent metal hood for it as I noticed that the built-in
hood is
barely adequate (it'll do the job if I can't be bothered carrying the other
one).
It's such a pity this lens doesn't have a built-in tripod shoe, and I would
definitely like it to focus a bit closer without resorting to an extension
tube.
Apart from all that it's rather a nice piece of glass :) I can't wait to go
shooting
 with it during the weekend.

I'm having a little trouble trying to find what the A*300/4 normally sells
for on
the secondhand market; if anyone would like to fill me in I'd appreciate it.

BTW, the 1000mm f/8 and wooden tripod I keep mentioning appears to be still
for sale. Drop me a line and I'll send you a link... >>
