I went round and round on the decision between the HP 8750 and Epson
2400 for several days. From my brief testing, I found the HP easy to
get the results I wanted on their glossy paper, but I wasn't so keen
on their matte paper surface. The Epson produced excellent results on
matte surface but I had issues with their results on glossy. The HP
is cheaper, the Epson ink carts are higher capacity and you replace
them more selectively. Round and round...
I shopped around locally for paper and ink supplies. Epson papers and
inks are easily, readily available from at least 10 different
suppliers in my area, at the same prices as on-line. Paper profiles
for a wide range of alternative papers were also readily available.
HP papers and inks were significantly harder to find locally, only
two suppliers had the 8750 ink carts in stock and most had only the
small sizes in paper. And few if any profiles for alternative papers
seem to be available.
That, plus the realization that I rarely print to sizes greater than
8x12 with glossy surface, won me over to the Epson R2400. I placed
the order yesterday, should see the printer next Wednesday.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the printing papers and printer
threads. It was quite helpful.
