Hey, you hit the nail square on the head Mike!!

You missed a few, though:

1. Notice that the meter is pooched,
2. Find a decent repair shop that can scrounge a meter from a dead Spottie, or
knows how to modify a K1000 meter to fit.
3. Curse Pentax for making meters that "only" last 25 or 30 years!
4. Discover that your mercury cell went dead after "only" 10 years.
5 Scour camera shops that still carry them, and buy up their last 6 or 10, so
that you have a lifetime supply (hopefully, unless you accidently leave the
meter switch "on" - or leave the lens cap off if you have an F)
6. Realize that you have one of the best systems ever made, with some of the
best lenses (both optically and mechanically) ever made, that you can still
pick up used for a (relative) song and dance.
7. Be happy!
