Some dogs anyway. The one thing you can say for that behavior is that
it doesn't create a bigger mess than there was before.

On 8/10/05, William Robb, discombobulated, unleashed:
When we morphed it into a two story house, he would only go down one
flight
of stairs to find a litter box. If he started out from the second
floor, it
was the living room that got shat or peed in.
I expect the poor fellow ended up in that big film processor in the
sky.
I still feel somewhat badly about it, but I couldn't have him
wrecking my
hardwood.
Ahhh. Understood.
You're quite a 'dog' bloke aren't you?
My cats would have sat on the design panel, advocating their needs
accordingly before even a grain of wood had been cut. (Better stop
before
you-know-what happens ;-)
Cats are inherently lazy animals, and are extreme creatures of habit.
The habit Max learned was one flight of stairs to the litter box.
A few people in my club are also cat fanciers, and they told me that
the cat would likely not ever learn otherwise.
I could have put a second litter box on the main floor, but for some
inexplicable reason, dogs think a cat box is M&Ms in nestled gently in
clay........
