Just a thought/question on Halloween specifically: October 31st is a
Monday, and thus it seems our entire town has agreed to celebrate
Halloween on Saturday 29th (the flyers that are up for adult parties
are all about Saturday parties). Not sure what the kids are doing. Is
it normal for them to move halloween to the weekend if it's on a
Monday?

Hello Skye,

As far as I know, Halloween itself is never moved. Many towns have a "trick or treat" event on an alternate evening, which is the traditional "costumed children wandering through the neighborhood looking for candy" event. This isn't technically the same thing as Halloween, but it's certainly close. Also, some towns celebrate their "trick or treat" event on one evening, while a nearby town might celebrate it on a different evening. Here in West Virginia, I've seen that happen quite often. It leads to a lot of confusion about exactly which night to take the kids out. Personally, I wish every town would stick to October 31st, and keep everything coordinated.

I should mention that I'm in the USA, and this is how things are handled here. Any alternative celebrations are determined locally, but the actual date of Halloween is never moved. Perhaps it's done differently in Canada or the UK?

We might want to consider modifying the permitted shooting times to accommodate such alternate dates, but that removes some of the synchronicity from the project. Wouldn't you agree? Then again, allowing for alternative dates might almost be a requirement, to insure a large amount of group participation.

I'm open to suggestions, but I do fancy the idea of keeping the shooting times between local dusk and dawn, no matter which night the photos are actually taken. If we allow multiple dates, I think we should definitely post the actual date along with each photo, and probably group them chronologically.

take care,
Glen
