And then she led me to her car, a Sky Blue 1974 AMC Pacer which she said
she'd driven from Iowa with dreams of becoming a White House intern. Of
course, they had more then their fair share of interns there, all
working *very* hard, so she had to shelve that dream, but I digress...
She opened the trunk...wait, no...hmm. She opened the ass of the car to
show me what looked like an altar. There was a picture of Bart Starr, a
bowl of cheese curds, and a 6 pack of Pabst. I think there was an old
Bratwurst there too, but it may have been a half smoked swisher sweet.
Hard to say. It was all stacked on an oversized edition of "The Bridges
of Madison County" which itself was supported by a decoratively arranged
block of 'indian' corn.
She said since she'd been out here, she'd never met anyone who'd even
*heard* of cheese curd, much less brought it up out of the blue in a
conversation, and that the ghost of Mike Ditka (who lives in her head)
told her I was the *one*.
I mentioned Mike Ditka was still alive, but she seemed to be lost in
reverie.
We cracked that Pabst, toasted dairy products in all their varieties and
watched cars drive through suburbia.
I raise my Pabst to the PDML!
