Whirlpool, like RCA, and others is nowadays a brand name without a
factory. In other words cheap junk with an old brand name attached.
Unfortunately many good old American brands have gone that way. It
proves that brand names (trademarks) mean nothing these days. Schrade
Cutlery (plant in NY closed last year) is the latest to go that way that
I know of, only in their case being made in China or Pakistan probably
means the quality has improved.

Had two of them and they failed miserably very quickly.
The Samsung's still there... and it did NOT cost 360 euros...

Quite possible. In fact, I also wrote

However, things can change. It's common practice for manufacturers to start
with low-end products and then expanding their range toward the higher-end
ones, and Samsung looks to be doing that.

The day before yesterday, I had to buy a new microwave oven.
In the big store there was a 99 Eur "best deal" there, but my wife wanted a
good one, hence we bought a 360 Eur model. Guess which of the two was the
Samsung and which one the Whirlpool?

That was then, Dario - Samsung is well regarded when it comes to
electronics. Much of their renown is "behind the scenes" though, tucked
quietly inside hundreds, if not thousands, of highly regarded name brand
items. It's time to adjust your thinking. This is a company with cash
and
ideas. They have long since moved from cheap microwave ovens, just as
Sony
has moved from TV's and video recorders. Just as the Panasonic brand has
migrated upscale over the years.

I understand what you mean. However, when I think of Samsung I mostly
think
about
99â,¬ microwave ovens, cheap fax machines, all-in-one scanners/printers,
and
the like. That makes their business. Conversely, when I think of
high-quality image stuff (cameras, printers) Samsung never comes to mind.
