Barry,I had several A series 50mm lenses as well as the F50/1.7 and I bought the FA50/1.4 anyway. The style doesn't bother me at all: I like having the option of AF with this superb lens. It focuses precisely and smoothly, both AF and manual, and it's well worth buying a NEW lens now and then for the fact that you get the latest coatings and there's no wear on it at all.
$235 for a lens of this calibre is very well worth it. Godfrey
