Plasmas are a bad deal, if you watch anything with a crawl, CNBC CNN FOX
News, etc. you'll have the crawl imprinted on everything after a very
short time. The screens themselves loose brightness at a rapid rate,
something like a year of use causes the screen to lose 1/2 it's
brightness IIRC.

I'm look at a 40-42 inch plasma or LCD for the bedroom . Aside from
having an extremely nice picture, the Samsung models I'm looking at
have their speakers mounted beneath the screen, using up no
additional room on the horizontal axis. Since this is going into a TV
cabinet, I can get a set with a screen 3 - 5 inches larger than
otherwise.

Jiminy Christmas!
I looked at a beautiful Sharp DLP 32" unit for [WHAT?] US$4500 [!!]
then downgraded my desires to a 26" LCD Samsung with good specs, and
even *that* picayune unit goes for $1259!
Now, that's a whole lot better, but these prices are way hurtin'!
I'd like to have a 30-32" unit, but that's a shade this side of $2000.
Plasmas don't even _start_ until you get past 32 or 36" wide. Prices
like almost 1/3 the price of a decent car, so that's forget it time!
Dang! Unless the street prices are a whole lot less than that, we'll
wait some more or until the current Sony takes the final plunge!
What I'm saying is, I want to pay cash, not put it on a time payment
basis.
I'm totally OUT of debt, first time in my life, and want to stay that
way!
Bottom line? I guess I should have paid closer attention to TV prices
during those 13 years while my good ol' Sony was hanging in there.

I've been impressed with the Samsung TVs as well. I'm looking for a
50-inch plasma. So far the very best seems to be Pioneer Elite. In
terms of picture quality, Sony is a distant fourth behind Pioneer,
Samsung and Phillips.

Huh? If you walk into any high end AV section of an electronics
store, you'll be surprised by how well Samsung's (super) large LCD,
HDTV, etc, offerings stack up against the best Sony's, etc. out
there. I was certainly surprised.

Shopping for a new TV.... I do admit that Samsung is top of my short
list right now...
