But, all that 's beside the original point. This particular conversation isn't about watching TV, it's supposed to be about the horrid cost of television receivers today, regardless of the end use to which it's put.

Yes, what happened to CRTs? Do you need that expensive stuff?

<smile> Well...

CRTs weigh well over 100 lb! Not that I move them every week, but come spring (and sometimes in between) my wife succombs to some need to thoroughly wash windows, and the TV *must* be moved. Furthermore, that weight up top creates a wobbly situation, unless you've got a pretty stout platform to put it on, and then that cabinet unit ends up weighing over 100 lbs. too, especially after you put the DVD/VHS player and the Satellite receiver on the shelves...

CRTs stick out pretty far in the back, requiring you have the stand pretty far away from the wall, wasting what little space I have in this tiny house of mine...

I suppose I COULD use a more modern piece of furniture to hold a CRT-type TV receiver, but, with the bigger sizes, it almost has to go on top, and I DO prefer the size and shape of those LCD machines over the behemoth CRT TVs...

Answer is no, I do *not* need one of the more expensive LCDs or DLPs.
And I'll most likely end up with the best compromise I can, which means yet another CRT TV. Sighhh.
