Thanks Rob, that may well be the case. I bought the charger and batteries
as a set (Energiser), and followed the recommended procedures for fully
charging and discharging, particularly in the early part of their use, and
have never been really satisfied. I'm now trying Li-Ion disposables as a
comparison! I might next try getting a new set of Ni-Mh's just to see
whether they will last longer after charging up.

A set of good well charged Ni-MH (2300-2500mAh capacity) should last
1200-1500
shots per charge in normal use. It sounds to me like your charger has
fried
your batteries.
