My impression of Photoshop is that it's trying to be all things to all people. It's highly versatile but it's also big and complicated.

For editing and retouching Photoshop is still king of the castle. From a workflow and organising perspective, Aperture is filling a gaping hole in the market (IMO).

My initial thought was that it would have very little usefulness outside of the professional world, but now I'm not so sure. You may be right here, but it is a bit expensive.

Apple could make a real killing if they release an "Aperture Express" (cf Final Cut Express, Logic Express) for people who want something better than iPhoto but not as expensive as Aperture.
