*istDS showing firmware version

Hi all,

A friend of mine just bought a used *istDS. Oddly enough, you cannot avoid 
it displays its firmware version (1.02) every time you switch it on, WITHOUT 
keeping the MENU button depressed. Other than that, the camera works fine, 
including the MENU button.

Any idea about the reason for such behaviour and how to get rid of the 
firmware version display (unless requested)?
