Not to the extent of even asking for ID. A drive by, may be in order to check things out. I firmly believe the police have no right to even ask you your name without probable cause. Unfortunately I have no way of stopping them from doing so, and it is so much easier to comply with their requests than it is to be hand-cuffed, beat-up, forced into the back of their patrol car, and taken do to the jail to wait for your lawyer to show up and get you out. Anyone want to make odds on how likely that is if you reply, "Get out of my face, Jerk"?

I've asked this question several times and, from what I've read, no one's
answered it: What are the police to do when someone calls them with a
complaint or concern? If they ignore it or dismiss it, the citizens will

The cops have to investigate any reports of suspicious activity. They would
be negligent if they didn't. The blame here lies with the person who dropped
the dime on you because you were walking down the street taking pictures if
someone indeed made the call. It's possible that the cop made up the whole
story about the call to justify his questioning you.
