The so called K lenses are officially smc-Pentax. The mount is the K mount and all 35mm format lenses made by Pentax since discontinuing the M42 SMC Takumars have been K (mount) lenses with the exception of one that I know of.

You are right, of course - but IMO the original K lenses are those introduced with the K bayonet in 1975 although the lenses themselves do not have this designation. And it is not just PDML speak.
But what would be the clearest naming system - I do not know.
All the best!

Well, strictly speaking - they are not. Not even M lenses.
K bayonet, yes maybe - but what generation?

According to "official" Pentax terminology (as embossed on the lenses
themselves), there never has been a line of K lenses. The K-mount lenses
before the M line appeared were simply called SMC lenses. To call these
pre-M K-mount lenses "K lenses" is strictly an informal PDML-style
convention. I would say that "K lenses" could easily refer to all K-mount lenses, 1975 to the present. I think that the "K" usage should be clear in
context.
