Actually, that setting was there even on v1.00, the firmware update
added the green button fix, which allowed metering in M mode, prior to
that the only metering at a setting other than A or with non-A lenses
was wide open Aperture Priority in the Program Modes.

After the first firmware update, a new setting was introduced: "Aperture
other than A" in the MENU. Then the camera will fire without an A lens set
to A - that goes for no lens, bellows etc. as well.

example a tube without *any* contacts at
all, but with a lens, or some other
