Thanks. That's everything I need to know. If I can't find a decent 6.5V
supply I'll get a lead acid accumulator. I bought one some time ago for
another application and its been working very well for more than a year. I
can charge it in the other device. I'd forgotten about this.
I would like to also add one more thing about lead acid. They're
quite inexpensive and have good power density and reasonable energy
density (per volume anyway... they're plenty heavy). Unlike NiMH and
NiCd, however, you CANNOT leave them dead for any length of time. When
they're completely dead, compounds precipitate out of "solution" and
prematurely kill the battery.... it only takes a day or so to kill one if
left dead.
Not to be worried about it or anything, and they don't have to be
full... just not completely flat. They've got a MUCH longer shelf life
than NiMH... it's 3% *per month*
