Not obscure at all. If the front wheels are sliding you have no steering
and you go where you are sliding.
The problem was that if the rears lock, and the fronts don't, you go ass end
first into whatever was in front of you.
It was only a problem on ice (common theme here...), but a couple of times,
I was doing loops in that car.
I saw a driving show a couple of years ago where they proved that if you
want to stop in a hurry, a four wheel lockup is the fastest way to stop, and
if all four wheels are locked, the car will continue to go straight.
This proved true in every condition they could replicate on a skid pad.
It's when you get some wheels locked and others not locked that things get
really unpredictable.
