Given that the policeman at the time of the encounter is in a position of power over you, the pinko photographer, it might make sense to cooperate fully, as far as reasonable, but make sure you get his number. If they ever let you out of the cells, you can then take the matter up with a lawyer if you feel it's necessary, or take it up yourself in the first instance by writing to the station chief, cc: the local police authority, and ask them to justify PC Dixon's behaviour.
