Thanks Paul. I retrospect, I certainly could have taken two images and done a range merge. I forgot about that.

I had trouble getting it to look right on a flat panel monitor after working on it on a nice big crt. So I went back to try to make it look right on the lcd and it just didnt look as nice as I wanted.

Interesting image, although perhaps a little too green overall. But you could have captured a lot more of the shadow detail than you show here. Did you shoot RAW? If processing in PSCS you should be able to extract quite a bit in conversion by increasing brightness and shadow settings while limiting exposure. Then, after conversion, you could use the Shadow/Highlights tool to further expand the range. If you want to go all the way, you could make two exposures -- one for the tree and one for the background -- and then comp them together. In truth, you can capture a greater range on digital than you could on film.

Played around with levels, etc. Too much range to capture with digital, I think. Couldn't get the image I wanted, but here goes:

Its an old tree that may soon fall into the pond, but then again, who knows how long its been leaning over the pond this way. It looked to me like a person with outstretched hands about to fall in.
