Well I did it. My youngest brother (15 years younger) was the recipient of
an 8MP Canon Rebel XT this weekend. It came with the cheapo 18-55 zoom they
sell in the kit.
He really likes photography and was not in a position to afford this at the
time, so being his oldest brother, I treated him to it, along with a 1G CF
and extra battery.
This is a prime example of Pentax missing the boat. I would have gladly
purchsed him an *ist D derivative if I felt secure in the 'Pentax future'.
Having not released a better camera than the 'D' in almost two years, I used
the mindset of "What if I was buying a new DSLR for the first time?".
Needless to say he was happy.
