Ok, thank you all who responded. I've already updated the firmware
(using the provided CR-V3 batts) and everything worked just fine.
Actually the update wasn't that important, as my (only) SD card has
1GB - which is supported from the version 1.00 and if I'll add another
1GB card and a mass storage device I won't need anything else.

There was more added than just support for larger cards. There was also an adjustment made to the noise reduction applied to long time exposures, to remove some noise in the green channel of the images. You might benefit from that.

The viewfinder is good, better I would say than that on my MZ-6 (I
left the film cameras home so I can't compare them). Unfortunately I
also have a ME Super, and that keeps me from calling the viewfinder
"great".

I compared the *istDS to the closest-priced Nikon DSLR model, an Olympus DSLR , and I think I also compared with a Canon DSLR. I liked the viewfinder of the *istDS much better than anything else I looked through that day. Generally speaking, the view was larger and brighter than the competition. The only thing I wish it had, was a split/image and microprism focusing screen option for use with manual focusing. True, there are other screens available, but someone on this list said that all of them were matte screens with only differing reticule patterns.

take care,
Glen
